Learn to sew the “Horizon Day Dress” from Matchy Matchy Sewing Club. The ultimate comfy, cute dress. In this class we will learn how to sew in-seam pockets, make pretty, even gathers, add bias facing, and hem a round skirt. You’ll go home with a beautiful handmade dress!
Ages 18+
Class prep:
-Download and print pattern. Link to pattern can be found here
-If you are not sure how to print a PDF pattern please ask us at the shop and we can help direct you to printers in the area. You can also print and assemble the pattern yourself at a local library
– Review the size chart (on page 3) and select your size
– Select view A or B (view A: simpler, recommended for newer sewers)
– Cut out paper pattern in your selected size and style
– Prewash fabric (Wash, dry, and iron)
– Cut out rectangle pattern pieces (in selected fabric). Due to the large size of these pieces, I recommend you cut them out prior to class. All other pattern pieces will be cut in class.
Materials needed (not included in class cost, but students will receive a 15% discount on class supplies purchased at Sew to Speak)
– Fabric: Please review the pattern fabric requirements (page 5) for the exact amount needed for your size.
– Lightweight linen is the recommended fabric. Sew to Speak sells Brussels Washer linen that is an ideal fabric for this project.
Students will need to bring the following supplies:
-Sewing machine
– Serger (optional). Students can choose to serge or zig-zag their seams
– Chalk or marking tool
– Sewing machine needles
– Pins or wonder clips
– Thread and bobbin
