Zaftig, meaning juicy in German, is a yiddish term for a beautiful curvaceous woman, and this class is all about creating fabulous clothes for big and beautiful bodies!
In this 6 session class we will make a Square Neck Top by Friday Pattern Company (available up to a 63″ bust) and the Glebe Pants (available up to a 75″ hip). We’ll be making muslins of both garments and adjusting the patterns to fit the particulars of our bodies. We’ll also go over garment construction best practices, picking the right fabric for a project, and common pattern alterations for bigger bodies.
Prerequisite skills: You must be familiar with your machine – can thread it and change settings without assistance, and sew with an accurate seam allowance. Previous sewing experience is required. It’s helpful if you have taken Sewing 101 or Sewing School. If you don’t have a sewing machine or don’t wish to haul it with you to class, we have some available to use in the classroom.
